This is my first review from the 11 part series, the best and worst albums of 2006. Check out my other reviews as they become available. This band is one of those bands that you either love or hate. There's really no inbetween. I happen to be one of those tons of people that loves them. I also think three cheers for sweet revenge is the best album of all time, at *****, but I'm not reviewing that album. Sadly, this album isn't as good as it's older brother, but it still is one of the best albums of the year. First of all, it is not as fast and hard as its predecesor, and introduces something that i have never really heard from MCR. Ballads. And not just one, but 3 of them (I Don't Love You, Cancer, and Disenchanted). Some of the songs on this album took a while to grow on me, but in the two months since the album, my self and a ton of other people learned to love every song(I read somewhere on the internet that it sold 1,015,000 copies already, but I'm not sure, so don't take my word for it). It has an In The Flesh? copy for its opener, three straight amazing hard rock songs, the modern Bohemian Rhapsody, a decent ballad, and ends with another amazing hard rock song, the first half of the album is very good. It could have done without I Don't Love You, and inserted another loud, fast hard rock song. The next half of the album starts out with the most amazing song on the album, and the only ballad that I can say is a major addition to the album, entitled Cancer. It is most likely the most depressing song ever written, and since it is a shorter song (only 2:22), it will get a very high playcount on iTunes. The next song is one that i have heard will be an upcoming single, mama, and features Liza Manneli about 3 minutes into the song. It is harder than most songs from MCR, and I think it is one of the better songs on the album. Then comes Sleep, a decent medium paced song that I enjoyed. The next song on the album is Teenagers, a wonderful song written, well, about teenagers, which i have heard will also be a single. The next song is the third and final ballad, Disenchanted. Not much special about this songand I also think the album could have done without this song. The "final" song on the album is the second single, Famous Last Words, which I think is also a pretty decent song. The real ending, Blood, is a hilarious hidden track added to the end of the album.Overall, The Black Parade is a very good third effort by MCR, filled with songs about death (big suprise there) and not as many hard rock songs as Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. If they had just left off I Don't Love You and Disenchanted, it would have been 5 stars.
